On Thursday evening, Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry was named as the 2023-24 NBA Clutch Player of the Year.
There’s no questioning Curry’s offensive talent and ability to hit shots in big moments, but many fans argue that the all-time great sharpshooter didn’t deserve this year’s award.
The Warriors fell to the Sacramento Kings in the No. 9 vs. No. 10 NBA Play-In Tournament, eliminating them from postseason contention.
Countless NBA fans made sure to point out this fact in reaction to Curry’s award.
“Couldn’t even clutch a play in win,” one wrote.
“So clutch he gets to watch the playoffs at home,” another said.
“10th seed no postseason but he’s clutch? come on bro!!!! they’re padding Curry’s legacy,” another added.
“LeBron can’t be 2nd Team All NBA because his team is the 7 seed, but the Clutch Player of the Year can… Ahhh nevermind,” another wrote.
Curry led the NBA in total clutch-time points (189) and clutch-time three pointers (32). He trailed league-leader DeMar DeRozan in average clutch-time points with 4.4.
