A waterfront English manor house that looks like something fresh out of Netflix’s Regency-era romantic drama “Bridgerton,” has hit the market for £15 million (US$19.2 million).

The 711-acre property, known as the Corby Castle Estate, is the “epitome of an English country estate,” according to the listing with Savills, which brought the place to the market last week.

Set on the outskirts of the village of Great Corby, in North West England, and overlooking the River Eden, the manor at the estate’s center dates, in part, to medieval times, and has only been owned by three families in the centuries since.

In 1323, the estate was granted to Richard de Salkeld, who built the original sandstone tower house known as the Peel Tower, which forms the core of the mansion.

The estate remained in the family for generations until Lord William Howard purchased it in stages between 1599 and 1624. Howard added a two-storied L-shaped house onto Peel Tower, and his descendants—who continued to own the home until the 1990s—made further adjustments over the years. The last reconstruction, between 1812 and 1814, gave the castle its rectangular footprint and neoclassical facade.

The current owners—who Mansion Global couldn’t reach for comment—bought the property from the Howard family in 1994, and restored the castle to its “current immaculate condition,” Savills said. It’s not clear how much they paid to acquire the property.

“It is incredibly rare for a historic property such as this to be maintained to such a high standard,” said Alex Lawson, head of Savills rural agency.

There are several reception rooms throughout the home, each with its own unique cornice detail, and “all are in impeccable condition,” according to the listing.

The drawing room boasts intricate craftsmanship, including a curved wall; the library has ornate bookshelves and silk wallpaper; a great hall is currently used as a formal dining room and there’s a smaller dining room, too; the so-called picture gallery with marble columns and a marble fireplace is character laden; and the “tapestry room” serves as a study and a meeting space.

There’s also a family kitchen, a conservatory-style morning room, 14 bedrooms, and a staff wing with a commercial kitchen.

Unsurprisingly, the historic estate has amassed plenty of amenities across the vast grounds, too. They include 16 residential buildings, an equestrian facility, farmland, woodland, picturesque gardens, and a waterfall that runs down to the river. The estate also encompasses five properties in the village of Great Corby, including the Queen Inn, a pub with its own brewery.

“The Corby Castle Estate embodies all the attributes we associate with a traditional English estate and there is a wonderful balance between all of its constituent parts,” Lawson said.
