The Lakers’ Route to Purchasing Donovan Mitchell Has Been Simplified

The New York Knicks may not be interested in trading for Donovan Mitchell this summer, easing the Lakers’ path.

The Los Angeles Lakers are poised to make a significant move if an All-Star guard becomes available for trade. The NBA trade market is always competitive, and the Lakers are well-versed in navigating it. This summer could see another intense pursuit of a star player.

The Athletic’s Fred Katz is reporting that the New York Knicks may not be interested in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers superstar, Donovan Mitchell.

“The Knicks are not in the same position today that they were a couple of summers ago when their offseason goal was to trade for Mitchell,” Katz writes. “They couldn’t make it happen, pulling out of negotiations when the price became too large. If Mitchell were to hit the trade market again this summer, league sources say the Knicks would not be as enthusiastic in their pursuit of him — and that’s because the situation has changed.”

If Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is put on the trade block, the Lakers will likely be among the first to express interest. Mitchell’s talent could be a major asset for the team. However, the Lakers won’t be alone in their pursuit, as several teams are also eyeing Mitchell. Fortunately for the Lakers, one major competitor appears to be stepping back.

Mitchell, a New York native, has been linked to the Knicks since he entered the league. Despite his strong ties to the area, the likelihood of him joining the Knicks seems to be fading.

For the Lakers, this means one less team to compete with in the quest to acquire Mitchell. As the NBA season winds down, trade rumors will inevitably heat up. Fans should prepare for what promises to be another exciting summer in the NBA.
