The Three-Team Blockbuster Trade Idea: Pascal Siakam To Warriors, Andrew Wiggins To Mavericks

This trade moves Pascal Siakam to the Warriors and Andrew Wiggins to the Mavericks.

The Golden State Warriors are a team that failed to win the championship this season, with the squad getting eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers. They have already made a trade for Chris Paul, and perhaps more trades could be on the horizon.

Forward Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors could be a suitable target for the team. The Warriors struggled with consistent offense in the playoffs, and the team was often stagnant on that end of the floor without Stephen Curry. Here is a three-team scenario that sends Pascal Siakam to the Warriors, Andrew Wiggins to the Dallas Mavericks, and a huge trade package to the Toronto Raptors.

Golden State Warriors Receive: Pascal Siakam

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Andrew Wiggins

Toronto Raptors Receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Green, 2026 First-Round Pick (DAL), 2028 First-Round Pick (GSW)

This three-team trade could potentially end up as beneficial for all of the teams involved. Both the Warriors and the Mavericks would get difference-making players for their respective championship pursuits, while the Toronto Raptors would get a competitive trade package. Here is why this trade package works for all parties.

The Golden State Warriors Land A Championship-Caliber No. 2 For Stephen Curry

As of right now, the Golden State Warriors need to build a championship-caliber team to take advantage of Stephen Curry still playing at a superstar level. Pascal Siakam is a proven champion, having won the 2019 championship with the Toronto Raptors as the No. 2 option behind Kawhi Leonard. He has only gotten better since then, and his s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 set suggests he can be an elite No. 2 on the Warriors as well.

This past season, Pascal Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game for the Toronto Raptors. He is a do-it-all forward that can defend at a high level, score in the interior, rebound, and make plays for others. He even has some midrange shot creation. Though Pascal Siakam isn’t necessarily a consistent No. 1 option, he can definitely slot in as a complementary player behind Stephen Curry.

The Warriors would have to give up Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, and a first-round pick in this trade scenario. Though that may be a steep price to pay, Siakam is a former All-NBA player that is worth the price of admission. If the Warriors are a good team, then Siakam is more likely to sign an extension with them as well, so it is a risk worth taking.

The Dallas Mavericks Land The Perfect Two-Way Player To Complement Luka Doncic And Kyrie Irving

Andrew Wiggins has revitalized his career with the Golden State Warriors, becoming one of the premier 3 and D players in the league. Wiggins averaged 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Warriors during the 2022-23 season while shooting 39.6% from 3PT range.

At his core, Andrew Wiggins is a low-usage player that fits in well next to other superstars. He spaces the floor and defends the best opposing perimeter player. We saw his elite defense on both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the 2022 NBA Finals, and it is clear that Andrew Wiggins brings a lot of value on that end of the floor. This is the perfect player to put next to two ball-dominant stars in Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.

To get this trade done, the Dallas Mavericks would have to send out Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, and a first-round pick. That is a very good trade price to pay for a former All-Star, and even if Wiggins isn’t traditionally considered All-Star caliber, he has shown that he can be the second-best player on a championship team.

The Dallas Mavericks have to show Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving that they are serious about building a championship-winning team around them and acquiring a proven player like Andrew Wiggins could be just the move to do that. He would also be a great positional fit on the team, and ultimately, there is no downside to bringing him in.

The Toronto Raptors Get A Huge Trade Package

The goal for the Toronto Raptors right now is to extract the most possible value out of Pascal Siakam on an expiring contract. This deal could potentially be the move that does that, and it is clear that the team would get a lot of assets to kickstart their rebuild around Scottie Barnes.

The key here of course is getting Jonathan Kuminga and Josh Green. Both are young forwards, who have the makings of solid two-way players. Kuminga in particular has shown a lot of flashes, and there are some who believe that he can be an All-Star in the future due to his athleticism and slashing ability. On top of the two prospects, the Toronto Raptors would get two first-round picks, which are likely to be valuable since they are years down the line.

The salary-matching part of this deal would involve veterans Tim Hardaway Jr. and Gary Payton II. Though both are unlikely to be of use for the Raptors rebuild, they still have value to other teams. Hardaway Jr. is a solid spark plug scorer with 3PT ability, while Gary Payton II is an athletic guard defender. It is quite likely that the Raptors would be able to move both ahead of the trade deadline for further assets.

Overall, this trade package gets the Toronto Raptors a solid mix of players and picks. At some point, the Raptors have to pull the trigger on a trade to avoid losing Pascal Siakam for nothing in 2024 free agency, and this is the right deal to take.

This Deal Makes Both The Warriors And The Mavericks Better

There is no doubt that this deal is a good move for both the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks. Both teams ultimately get better. The Warriors get a former All-NBA player and increase their overall talent level. Meanwhile, the Mavericks get a quality starting SF, which is one of the few holes on their roster.

It remains to be seen if the Warriors, Mavericks, and Raptors can agree on a deal with this framework in the future. Multi-team deals are notoriously hard to execute in the league, but we have seen stranger trades happen in the league.
