Like mothers, fathers do have an important role in raising their 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. In most cases, 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren often consider their fathers as role models while growing up. But this was not the case in Kevin Durant‘s life. The NBA player was raised without a father figure. He was just a year old when his father, Wayne Pratt left him and his family behind. Ignored by his father Wayne, he got the surname of his mother.
It is quite common for parents to keep their 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s surnames of their fathers but it was different in this case. As an infant Kevin was raised by his mother Wanda Durant, along with his grandmother Barbara Davis in Prince George’s County Maryland. He and his brother Tony were the only male figure in their mother’s life.

Kevin’s relationship with his mother however deepened with time. Working hard to provide for a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 is never an easy thing for a single mother. But Wanda managed it well and her hardship got paid off with Kevin getting his NBA draft in 2007. In return, Kevin during his MVP award gave an emotional speech on her mother giving her the tag of ‘The Real MVP’ that made her a celebrity mom today. The two are always seen sharing wholesome moments together.
Almost exactly 8 years to the date Kevin Durant gave one of the most iconic speeches in sports history. Dedicated his MVP award to his Mother 🤞🏽❤️

Having talked about Kevin and his mother’s relationship in detail let’s take a look at his relationship with his father.
Kevin Durant’s relationship with his father Wayne Pratt
Kevin Durant who was raised without his father got him back in his life when he was a 13-year-old. Having no sort of relationship with his father, and a rough 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood, he took a while to open up and understand the situation. The two eventually bonded after a while.
From a rough start to the beginning of a new bond, their relationship built a positive change in their lives. From helping him out in his professional career to helping him make selfish decisions in his life, Wayne Pratt was making up for his lost time with his son in every way possible. Kevin on his part always referred to him about his NBA career and were often seen practicing together. During the occasion of Father’s Day, Wayne penned down a heartful note for his son.
“This Father’s Day, I celebrate you, Kev. Not because you are a great basketball player, but because you are a GREATER son. Today isn’t about me. It’s about us and what we’ve accomplished through faith and love."
