Declan Rice sent Arsenal supporters at the Emirates Stadium into absolute pandemonium after he put the Gunners ahead against Manchester United in the dying embers of the game. However, it was what Jorginho did moments later that caught the eye of fans on social media.
With just minutes to spare, the former West Ham midfielder beat Andre Onana at his near post to dramatically give Mikel Arteta’s side the lead. Before Rice wheeled away in celebration, Jorginho, who was on the bench and still wearing an orange bib, pounced on the 23-year-old in excitement.
Sprinting towards the home support, the England international then led the celebrations in the corner flag where he was mauled by players and fans alike. Just moments later Gabriel Jesus added to Arsenal’s lead with a composed effort which saw the Emirates Stadium absolutely erupt leaving Erik ten Hag and the United players heartbroken.
Ahead of Arsenal’s clash against United, Arteta spoke on the importance of getting a result in what is such a historic fixture in the calendar. The Spaniard said: “We know the history between the two clubs and the games that we had in the past.
“They were a really good example so it’s going to be a really competitive match and a big battle on Sunday. Obviously we want to come away from that with three points.”
Then, when asked if it’ll be an early indicator of Premier League title credentials, Arteta said: “I don’t know. I think it’s too early in the season. We all want to win games, we all want to play the best possibly way.
“That’s not going to dictate but it gives you momentum and belief. Before the international break, it’s very important to finish well and win your game and go into September with another block of games on a high.”
In what was another high-scoring game, Arteta explained why the floodgates always open when Arsenal and United lock horns. The Gunners boss added: “Well, first of all the quality of the players, there are a lot of top offensive players in the two teams and it is probably the approach of both teams, the way we want to play, there were some errors involved which hopefully we can eradicate as well, normally it’s a very entertaining fixture.”
