Mike Trout Blindsided by Wholesale Waivers Decision from Halos

Star outfielder Mike Trout has spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels, so he has seen all of the ups and downs. It has been more downs than anything over the years, but Trout has remained positive through it all.

This season was supposed to go much differently for the Halos, but once again they will likely be on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. It also seems that the Angels waived the white towel earlier this week, putting all of the players that they acquired at the trade deadline on waivers.

It was seen as a salary relief move for the Angels but ended up not meaning anything after it was all said and done. The move to place the players on waivers shocked the entire baseball world, including Trout. He gave his thoughts on the decision by the franchise.

“I was surprised as much as everybody was” by the waiver moves, Trout said. “I didn’t see what was coming.”

Per The OC Register

It’s a little strange that the Angels didn’t consult their star player on the decision here. Trout has been rehabbing as he tries to make his way back to the lineup in the final month of the season. You’d think that this is the kind of move that the front office would discuss with him, but like everyone else, he was blindsided by it.

Even some of the players who were put on waivers were shocked by the decision of the team, including starter Lucas Giolito.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the way, Trout may come to resent this decision by the team. He has stayed with the Angels all these years, despite their struggles on the field. But at some point, enough could become enough for the All-Star outfielder.

After all, he isn’t getting younger, and the team hasn’t shown the ability to consistently contend for the postseason. Plus, adding onto the fact that his partner in crime, Shohei Ohtani, could leave the team this offseason, maybe this is the winter that he asks out of the organization.

Asked if he could see a scenario in which he would ask for a trade from the only franchise he’s known, Trout said: “I’m not even going to comment on that.”

Per The OC Register

This isn’t a great look for the organization whatsoever. Things are about to get very interesting for the Angels this winter.
