Chelsea are now growing confident they can secure a deal to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.
Phillips has reported via his Substack on Wednesday that there’s some belief at Stamford Bridge they can land the Brentford striker.
He’s said: “I am hearing that Chelsea are gaining in confidence on landing Toney.”

Phillips adds that Chelsea’s pursuit of Ivan Toney has been described to him by sources as similar to their Moises Caicedo chase.
Apparently, the Blues are trying to work on creating a relationship with Brentford’s 27-year-old forward, which was a trick that helped them this summer when they signed Caicedo from Brighton.
In addition, the journalist has heard the “potential deal is heating up” as Chelsea put in the groundwork now for a future transfer.

The Independent recently claimed that Brentford value Toney at £80million. Let’s wait and see if that’s still the case in 2024, though.
He’s currently serving a suspension until the New Year due to breaking betting regulations, but he’s done enough in his performances beforehand to firmly grab Chelsea’s attention.
The English frontman scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season for Brentford.
For now, Chelsea have Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja as the two recognised No 9s competing for the striker position. We want to see the young forward both get a fair shot under Mauricio Pochettino, but we’ve got to applaud the work behind the scenes that is being done on Toney.
