Liverpool and Manchester United scouts have reportedly been on the exact same scouting mission during the international break with two players watched in particular. Club scouts are always scouring the globe trying to find the next superstar talent.
United found a gem in signing Alejandro Garnacho from Atletico Madrid in 2020 while Bayern Munich managed to steal Jamal Musiala from Chelsea’s academy when he was just 16 years of age. Scouts are always tasked with finding the next big thing and the international break is often a chance for staff to jump on a plane around the world to take a closer look at prospects.
As well as targeting young talents for the club’s academy, scouts are also tasked with finding potential bargains around some of the top leagues. Players such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Nemanja Vidic, Vincent Kompany and N’Golo Kante went from relative obscurity to the heights of European and world football after being scouted from all over Europe.
And rivals Liverpool and United have seemingly used the international break to try and find the next young superstar defender. According to 90min, both Premier League clubs were present to see Antonio Silva in action for Portugal in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Slovakia.

They weren’t alone as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid scouts were also said to be in attendance. Silva helped his country keep a clean sheet in the crucial win with the 19-year-old already a regular for Benfica’s starting line-up.
Scouts for Liverpool and United then reportedly hopped on a plane to Italy to catch Atalanta starlet Giorgio Scalvini in action against Ukraine. The teenage centre-back played the full 90 minutes as Italy picked up a much-needed win over Ukraine.
