Wembanyama confirms he’ll be at the Olympics to challenge LeBron James’ Dream Team

He didn’t go to the FIBA World Cup with France

While many assumed Victor Wembanyama would be present at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, it hadn’t been confirmed.

The young superstar skipped the FIBA World Cup to focus on preparing for his first NBA season with the San Antonio Spurs, but has now stated that he will be present in France next summer.

“Winning the Olympics would be great, of course I’ll be there,” he said when presenting a Canal+ documentary titled ‘Un1que’, which will chronicle his final season with Metropolitans 92.

Wembanyama is a threat to LeBron James

This confirmation means that France could be a serious challenger to the Dream Team that LeBron James wants to build for Team USA.

After the Americans’ setback at the World Cup, where they failed to reach the podium and finished fourth, they want to put together a great team.

The likes of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis and Jayson Tatum have all been mentioned, and they’ll have Wembanyama up against them.

France also struggled at the FIBA World Cup, exiting early, and Wembanyama was asked about this.

“I saw it and it was very disappointing, but I’m not worried,” he said.

“I have no judgement to make. I wasn’t in the team and it’s in the hands of top players.

“I feel it doesn’t change anything about doing something big in Paris next year.”
