Fabrizio Romano Claims It Was Actually Mauricio Pochettino Who Stopped Chelsea Signing ‘Special’ Player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that manager Mauricio Pochettino was responsible for Chelsea not signing Joao Felix this summer.

He took to YouTube to state the boss was not convinced about the 23-year-old, and instead wanted to look another direction.

After a rough summer, Felix looks like he is finally enjoying his football again at Barcelona.

He scored a brace on his first Champions League start for the club, following on from finding the net in La Liga.

Playing for a team he has claimed is a dream for him, the Portugal man is finally looking like the ‘special’ player so many praised in the past.

Things didn’t work out quite as well at Chelsea for him, although he did show flashes of brilliance at a particularly low time at Stamford Bridge.

With the addition of Pochettino though, Romano has claimed that he preferred to go down the route of Christopher Nkunku in that position.

He said: “The feeling at Chelsea from June to August was that for Atlético it was impossible to accept a loan deal. It was a permanent transfer or nothing and Atlético knew Chelsea decided against spending €70m to €80m. It was a no for Chelsea from the financial point of view.

And also from a technical point of view, Pochettino was not convinced about this solution and believed that Nkunku was perfect for Chelsea in that kind of creative position. So, they (Pochettino and the club) decided together to go on a different way.”

The France international is yet to make his debut for the club after an injury suffered in pre-season.

However, there remains plenty of positivity over what he will bring to the club when he returns.
