18-year-old girl bags master’s degree at US university with 4.0GPA, sets record as school’s youngest graduate

An 18-year-old girl named Salenah Cartier has bagged a master’s degree at the University of Houston,  United States with a 4.0 GPA, setting a record as the institution’s youngest graduate.

Salenah Cartier made history earlier at the university when she bagged her bachelor’s degree at the age of 17 in the same University of Houston. She obtained a degree in Psychology and Business.

Salenah remained consistent in her academic achievements earning a master’s of education degree in Curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston’s college of Education.

According to Afrotech, Salenah was homeschooled since the sixth grade after facing bullying from her peers due to her high-level academic success. During her preteen years, she enrolled in a homeschool program that fast-tracked her education making her graduate high school at the age of 14.

Salenah was admitted into the University of Houston’s Bower College of Business at the age of 14. She said none of her classmates realized she was very young making her college life normal.

“No one knew how old I was. Actually, no one knew. So I was able to blend in. I made quite a few friends. I believe my college experience was pretty normal actually,” she said.

She did not only bag a bachelor’s degree, but she also earned a certificate in Corporate Entrepreneurship. Salenah credits her mother for supporting her decision to follow such an unconventional educational path.

She said throughout the program, she felt academically stimulated and fulfilled in many ways adding that her personal growth in the fields of education, psychology, technology, and qualitative and quantitative research was visually evident in her public speaking.

Salenah’s exceptional academic performance earned her three fully funded scholarships to study for her Ph.D. She is currently studying for her doctorate degree in Texas University’s Instructional Technology Department.
