Steph Curry Plans On Pursuing A Very Ambitious Golf Goal After He Retires From The NBA

There are plenty of professional athletes who don’t play golf for a living but can nonetheless hold their own on the course. That includes Steph Curry, who apparently already has his eye on the PGA Tour Champions circuit even though he won’t be eligible to join it for close to 15 years.

At this point, Steph Curry doesn’t really have anything left to prove on the basketball court. The 10-time All-Star and two-time regular season MVP has racked up four championships during his time with the Golden State Warriors while cementing himself as one of the most deadly long-range shooters of all time, and there’s zero doubt he’ll be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame as soon as he’s eligible.

There’s no telling when the 36-year-old guard will decide to hang up his sneakers, but it would be pretty hard to blame him for taking things easy in his well-earned retirement. However, it doesn’t sound like that’s the route he’s planning on opting for.

Curry was the subject of the cover story in the most recent edition of Golf Digest, which primarily focused on his efforts to inject some diversity into the sport with the help of the Underrated Golf Tour that he launched in 2022.

However, Curry—who reached a +3 handicap last year during a summer where he walked away with a victory at the American Century Championship—also discussed his long-term vision for his personal future while stating he fully intends to qualify for the PGA Tour Champions league after he turns 50 in 2038, saying

“I don’t know what the path is. All I know is, when I’m done with basketball, I’m going to reasonably invest as much into my golf as I can to see how good I can get, and where that puts me 14 years from now, we’ll see.”

As things currently stand, Curry would be facing a bit of an uphill battle when you consider the vast majority of the eligibility requirements (unsurprisingly) favor people who spent time on the PGA Tour.

However, he could still punch his ticket by winning a qualifying tournament, and when you consider he’ll likely have around a decade to prepare, it would be a bit foolish to count him out.
