Angelina Jolie accuses Brad Pitt of ‘forcing her to sign a non-disclosure agreement’

Angelina Jolie says ex-husband Brad Pitt forced her to “sign an $8.5 million nondisclosure agreement to hide his violent past.”

According to People, which obtained information from the court on July 25, Angelina Jolie’s lawyer said that Brad Pitt once refused to buy back Jolie’s shares of Château Miraval (France) unless she signed an extended nondisclosure agreement (NDA).

In the latest document, Jolie’s representative said the star “did not act maliciously or intentionally to hurt Brad Pitt in response to any 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 custody judgment” when selling shares of the French vineyard in 2021 to someone else. At the same time, Jolie’s side once again asked Pitt to make public the content he provided to third parties about the altercation on a flight from France to the US in 2016.

Pitt’s lawyers previously refused, saying Jolie’s request violated her privacy. According to them, the information Jolie requested was not related to the estate but contained “sensitive issues” about the actor after the plane incident, such as Pitt’s voluntary acceptance of self-improvement therapy, alcoholism test reports, and his relationship with a trusted advisor.

In response to Pitt’s argument, Jolie’s lawyers said that the actor had given up all privacy protections since he sued their client. The representative said: “Although Pitt has made an outdated argument to conceal his violent behavior, his opinion is not the law, at least not in this century. Pitt has not cited any authoritative documents that could give him such unreasonable privacy protections.”

Angelina Jolie’s legal team also said that the star did not want to sue and had not publicly discussed the dispute for many years. “Instead of appreciating Jolie’s caution, Brad Pitt sought to authorize and enforce the contract between him and his ex-wife. Because Jolie refused to sign the NDA, he sought to punish her, demanding $67 million in compensation. While Jolie sincerely wanted Pitt to stop suing to heal the family, he continued to pursue the lawsuit,” the representative added.

A source told People that in the nearly eight years since filing for divorce, the two sides are still in the process of negotiating agreements. “They are still discussing but there is no result,” this person said.

The dispute began in mid-2016, when Angelina wanted to sell the Château Miraval vineyard to move to England but was opposed by her ex-husband. Pitt said he loved the place very much and had spent a lot of time repairing and renovating it, so he did not want to sell it.

In 2022, the actor sued his ex-wife for the first time for secretly selling ownership rights to a Russian tycoon for $67 million. The dispute has not yet come to an end, leading to the two continuously “disgracing” each other in court. Many international news sites commented that the NDA became the main issue in the couple’s conflict.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt first met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005), when the actor was married to Jennifer Aniston. After Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Angie and Pitt went public with their relationship, got married in 2014, and raised six 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren together, including three adopted and three biological. In 2016, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Both fought for custody of the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, but Brad Pitt lost.
