Kansas City, Missouri, could consider itself a little lucky when it comes to having celebrities helping them thrive. Although their football team, Kansas City Chiefs, is busy ripping apart the NFL by winning consecutive Super Bowl titles. Their players, especially Travis Kelce, his girlfriend Taylor Swift and his brother’s wife Kylie Kelce, are encouraging the growth of communities.
This Sunday, Jason Kelce’s wife, Kylie, came down to the Kansas City Field Hockey clinic for a surprise appearance. Having played field hockey during college and coaching in her high school in Philadelphia, Kylie wanted to grow the sport in KC, “It was so much fun to have that moment to sort of give back to the Kansas City community because they’ve given so much to our family.”
Although her husband Jason played his football for the Philadelphia Eagles and winning a super bowl, it’s her brother-in-law who found the most success in Kansas City. Having won three Super Bowl titles and countless personal accolades, Kylie wanted to encourage the growth of field hockey, which has been on the rise in the last few years.
Expressing her excitement about the sport growing, Kylie added, “I’m so excited for the Kansas City area and how field hockey is blossoming. One of the best things that you can have is competition because it drives you to be better. So just seeing that more girls are getting involved, and then knowing that’s only going to drive the competition up in the country.” Well, it’s true field hockey is indeed growing cause last year, there were only Pembroke Hill and Notre Dame de Sion’s teams present in the clinic.
But this year, St. Teresa and Bishop Miege have added their teams to the event. This would be truly encouraging for Kylie Kelce, who is pushing for the growth of field hockey in Kansas City. However, she is not alone in helping Kansas City thrive in recent years, as Taylor Swift is playing a major role in offering a financial boost to small businesses in the Chiefs Kingdom.
Taylor Swift’s influence helping small businesses splurge in popularity over Kansas City
From the moment Swift attended her first Chiefs game last year, a local clothing shop, Pink Dinosaur, saw its online presence multiplied after catering to the Swifties. As shared there by the owner, Elle Steadman, “Our online presence has grown 170%. We were stuck at 26,000 followers on Instagram for a long, long time, but after Swift came to a game we grew to 41,000.”
Well, that’s not the only example of small businesses expanding through Swift’s presence in Kansas City. When the Grammy winner wore t-shirts from Westside Storey to a Chiefs-Bengals face-off last season, their owners suddenly found themselves struggling to keep up with orders. After shipping the preorders that included a box of five vintage sweatshirts to Swift’s team, their owners, Chris Harrington and his girlfriend Kathryn Cacho, shared, “Swift has allowed us to dream bigger. We’re looking at other locations. We’re looking to expand our office space and inventory space.”
Considering the millions of fans she has earned globally, it’s no wonder that Swift can change the course of any business. But the way Kylie and Taylor are helping Kansas City to grow, we can’t help but appreciate their effort. Hopefully, the blessings they receive from this positive work can reflect upon the Chiefs, who are aiming for an unprecedented 3-peat this season.
