Shedeur Sanders revealed his father, “Coach Prime” Deion Sanders’ sentiments after seeing LeBron James and Bronny James play together. The Lakers’ father-son duo made history on the opening night of the 2024-25 NBA season against the Timberwolves on Oct. 23 after appearing on the court together in the second quarter.
They became the first father-son duo to achieve the feat in NBA history. They did that in the preseason, too. LeBron and Bronny’s unofficial debut together came against the Suns on Oct. 6. Shedeur opened up on his father’s true feelings about that moment, hinting he wanted to step on the field with him again.
“I think it’s really inspiring, I think dad thought about coming back,” Shedeur said on his podcast ‘2 Legendary’. “You know, one game. He’s just gonna be on kickoff return and just be him … Just to make history. So, I think it inspired him a little bit, you know, to put the pads back on.”
Coach Prime and Shedeur already share a coach-player relationship on the Colorado Buffaloes. His older son, Shilo, is also on the team.
Deion enjoyed a tremendous NFL career, playing 14 seasons, and winning the Defensive Player of the Year in 1994. His last season was in 2005. The 57-year-old remains close to the sport as a coach.
However, despite his desire to put the pads back on after seeing LeBron James and Bronny James, he’s certainly not returning to the field nearly 20 years after retiring.
Coach Prime gave LeBron James his flowers after stepping on court with Bronny James
“Coach Prime” Deion Sanders expressed his desire to play with his sons the moment he saw LeBron James and Bronny James on the court together against the Suns. He mentioned LeBron and Bronny in one of his tweets, giving the Lakers star his flowers for “fatherhood” and “longevity,” saying:
“I’m COMING Back to play with my sons to! This is HISTORICAL! Give this man his FLOWERS NOW! This speaks to Fatherhood, Excellence & Longevity. @KingJames @BronnyJamesJr.”
Many consider this as LeBron James’ greatest achievement ever, and deservingly so. Considering the toll a physically exhausting sport like basketball takes on a player’s body, it was always going to be a race against time for the four-time MVP to suit up with his 20-year-old son when the time came.
However, just like most of the records and moments during his 22-year career, LeBron has defied the odds about the chances of teaming with his son.
