Former European Ryder Cup player Peter Baker this week spoke about Tiger Woods’ qualities as a golfer. He mentioned the golfing legend while talking about the state of the modern game, which he believes has changed a lot since he played.

Speaking before the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, he said,

“It’s changed a lot. Is it any more s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ful? I’m not quite sure. Are there any characters in the game? Not quite sure about that either.”

He added that this is probably him moving toward the end of his career and reflecting rather than looking forward. Baker then brought up Woods as the standout golfer over the last couple of decades. Baker said,

“Tiger Woods, obviously, I was fortunate to play with him a couple of times by the end of my career. He’s been the standout, obviously, over the last 25-30 years, he’s been the standout player. Tiger was certainly very, very different and exceptionally good.”

Continuing further, Baker said the game at large is in a good place going into 2025, crediting Woods for opening up the game to the masses.

A look at Tiger Woods’ performance in 2024

Tiger Woods is still recovering from the car crash that occurred in February 2022. Even though he is back on his feet, the 48-year-old golfer seems to be taking time to get back into the full swing of the game.

He competed in just five events this year and made just one cut. Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational after having flu-like symptoms. After that, he competed in four major events, where he finished 60th at the Masters and missed cuts at the US Open, the PGA Championship, and the Open Championship.

Despite not playing regularly, Woods is doing plenty of behind-the-scenes work as he is part of plenty of committees and sub-committees. During the Open Championship, Woods shared he enjoys helping the game. He said,

“It’s a lot of work. It’s enjoyable in the sense that I’m able to help the Tour, and I’m able to help the next generation of players.”

Tiger Woods will make his next public appearance in the Hero World Challenge, a tournament hosted by the 15-time major championship winner himself. The Albany, Bahamas, will host the event which is set to begin on December 5.
