Hollywood is using its star power to get out the vote on Election Day.

From posting selfies with their “I voted” stickers to handing out water to people waiting in line at the polls, celebrities are putting in their best efforts to encourage people to vote.

Anne Hathaway even got in on the action, but her urgent plea to voters left some of her fans confused in the process.

The Princess Diaries star, who won an Academy Award for her role in the film adaptation of the hit musical Les Miserables, put her singing talents on display on social media on Nov. 5.

In a video posted on Instagram, Hathaway greeted the camera, stating “so I hear that there’s crazy long lines at college campuses, which, oh my gosh you guys, thank you for showing up to vote.”

She continued, saying that she had a message for people who “are on a line right now” before she put on a pair of sunglasses and broke into song.

“Please, please, please stay on the line,” she said to the tune of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Please Please Please.” Hathaway then tweaked the lyrics to the chorus, singing “please, please, please especially at UPenn and Temple, you just wait out your time,” referencing two Philadelphia universities where some voters reportedly had to wait over two hours to cast their ballots.

“Voting is magic, but also annoying, you waited out this long, let’s make it not boring,” she sang before jumping up in pitch and wrapping with “please, please, please hold the line.”

Fans were equal parts supportive and apprehensive in the Interstellar star’s comments. “I love you but girl what are u doing😭,” wrote one fan, while another griped about celebrities getting involved in politics, commenting “Why do actors and actresses promote this so much.” A third questioned Hathaway’s efforts, writing “Anne honey, really?”

Meanwhile, others were on board with the song, writing comments like “THAT’S OUR QUEEN OF GENOVIA,” praising her by saying “You are such a Queen for using your voice and platform,” and sharing that they were “Waiting for the single 🎶.”

While several commenters called her video “cringe,” fans were also quick to thank Hathaway for her efforts, writing “it’s good to see how much you care about people voting for their rights and of course we love to see you sing 🤍.”
