Roberta Flack is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who has made significant contributions to the world of music.

Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Flack’s life journey is one of talent, perseverance, and artistic excellence.Flack’s musical talents were evident from a young age. She began playing the piano at the age of five and went on to study music formally, earning a scholarship to Howard University where she majored in piano and voice. After graduating, Flack initially pursued a career in education, teaching music while also performing at local clubs in the Washington, D.C. area.

Her breakthrough came when she signed with Atlantic Records in the late 1960s. In 1969, Flack released her debut album, “First Take,” which included the iconic song “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” The song became a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning Flack a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1973. This success catapulted her to international fame and established her as one of the premier vocalists of her generation.

Throughout the 1970s and beyond, Flack continued to release successful albums and singles, showcasing her soulful voice and remarkable musicality. Hits like “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” and “Where Is the Love” cemented her reputation as a soul and R&B icon.

In addition to her solo career, Flack collaborated with other esteemed artists, including Donny Hathaway, with whom she recorded several duets. Their partnership produced timeless classics such as “The Closer I Get to You” and “Where Is the Love.”
