20th Century Studios has greenlit Independence Day 3, bringing back Will Smith as the iconic Captain Steven Hiller in a surprise twist. Titled Independence Day: The Last Signal the film is set to conclude the epic alien invasion saga with an action-packed narrative that promises to redefine the franchise.

Set 30 years after the events of Resurgence, the story reveals that humanity has built a fragile alliance with alien refugees seeking to overthrow their oppressive overlords. Hiller, thought to have perished in the second film, returns as part of a secret project that preserved his life using advanced alien technology. This revelation propels him to lead a desperate final mission against an armada larger and deadlier than ever.

The ensemble cast will feature Jeff Goldblum reprising his role as David Levinson and Maika Monroe returning as Patricia Whitmore. Joining them are newcomers John Boyega, portraying a rogue fighter pilot, and Florence Pugh, cast as a rebellious scientist uncovering the alien’s ultimate secret.
