Tiger Woods’ son Charlie has already made ambitious claim that speaks volumes

Charlie Woods is champing at the bit to get his hands on the U.S. Open crown above all other majors.

The emerging talent and son of golf legend Tiger Woods is causing waves after sinking his first hole-in-one as an early Christmas gift to himself. And dad Tiger was on hand to witness the special moment during the PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club last Sunday.

But it’s only the beginning of what Charlie wants to achieve in the sport that made his father an icon. And it was earlier in 2024 that the teenager signalled his intent to rake in one particular major.

“The USGA means a lot to me,” said Woods Jr, 15, after qualifying for his first USGA Championship. “I want to win USGA Championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.”

The youngster will be all too aware that his father won the tournament on no fewer than three occasions. Woods Sr clinched his first U.S. Open title at Pebble Beach in 2000, the same year he finished a Masters win short of completing the calendar Grand Slam.

Tiger won the U.S. Open a second time in 2002 and once more in 2008, shortly after which major results began to tail off amid personal scandals. Charlie was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 from Woods’ marriage to Swedish model Elin Nordegren in 2009, months before the extent of Woods’ infidelity came to light.

The youngest member of the Woods clan has a long journey ahead before he can match his dad’s feats on the course. Tiger was 20 when he turned professional in 1996, and it took him a little less than 12 months to win his first major.

That sets a high bar for his son as he looks to make his own impact on golf. However, it’s already clear a lack of ambition won’t be an issue for Charlie.
