Phoenix Suns Actively Trying To Land Damian Lillard

The Phoenix Suns will probably be one of the most active teams in the 2023 NBA offseason, alongside the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. Following a painful elimination against the Denver Nuggets in the Second Round of the playoffs, the Suns will try to make some moves to have a better chance at the championship.

One NBA executive has claimed that they’re trying to find a way to land Damian Lillard, a sought-after player around the league right now.

“There is a lot that can happen there,” the executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy. “The Suns need depth all over that roster. They want to free up their payroll. They want to see if there is a way to bring in Dame. They want to see what they can do with a Deandre Ayton deal.

“There is a lot on the table. And the [Los Angeles] Lakers need to know where they are going with [D’Angelo] Russell. They’re not just letting him walk. They traded a pick for him. And who knows if they could get Chris to sign a vet minimum deal or what?”

The Suns thought they had something going on this season, but after the Kevin Durant trade went through, they didn’t have the same depth they had before, and when they faced the Nuggets, the differences between both teams were pretty clear.

They have made some big changes this offseason, starting with Frank Vogel replacing Monty Williams as the team’s head coach. Now, they’ll try to put together a competitive team for next season, and Lillard could be the best target for them.

Lillard recorded 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 58 games this season, shooting 46.3% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc, and 91.4% from the free-throw line.

James Harden Is On The Suns’ Radar Too

Lillard isn’t the only option for the Suns right now, as Ramona Shelburne recently named the Arizonian team as a potential landing spot for James Harden. The Beard is reportedly studying his option this offseason, with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets as the frontrunners.

Chris Paul’s future is up in the air right now, but the Suns know CP3 is a great talent that helped them a lot in the past three seasons. The point guard could stay on the team, and if they manage to land another star, Phoenix will be a total menace in the Western Conference.
