Over fifty years since its debut, “Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em” remains one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms, known for its slapstick humor and unforgettable characters. The show, which aired from 1973 to 1978, introduced audiences to the clumsy yet endearing Frank Spencer, played by Michael Crawford, whose catchphrase “Ooh Betty” became iconic. As we approach 2025, the legacy of its cast evokes nostalgia and reflection, particularly as we remember their contributions to British television and the tragic fates that befell many.

Michael Crawford, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in 1942, carved out a successful career post-“Some Mothers” in musical theatre, notably starring in “The Phantom of the Opera.” Now at 83, he remains a respected figure in the entertainment industry. His co-star, Michele Dotrice, who portrayed the devoted Betty Spencer, has continued to act and engage with audiences, celebrating her career at 76.

Glenn Edwards, who played Mr. Lewis, enjoyed a varied career until his passing in 2018 at age 87. Similarly, Dick Bentley, known for his role as Granddad, left a significant mark on British comedy before passing away in 1995 at 88. Christopher Biggins, famous for his lively performances, continues to be a prominent television personality at 76, while Elizabeth Sladen, who brought Judy to life, sadly passed away from cancer in 2011.

Other notable cast members include John D. Collins, who remains active in the industry at 82, and Jeffrey Cheta, who had a prolific career until his death shortly after reaching the age of 100 in 2021.

As we reflect on the lives of these entertainers, it is bittersweet to remember that many have passed on, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to resonate with fans. Their humor and charm have shaped British television history, ensuring that their contributions will not be forgotten.
