The new parents haven’t revealed a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 name yet, but say they’re “super anxious” to start the journey.
What’s even sweeter than being a professional athlete? How about being a new parent? Japanese superstar pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani announced that his wife Mamiko Tanaka, gave 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to their first daughter.
The announcement was made via an April 19, 2025 Instagram post, where Ohtani let his 9.5M followers know the good news.
“I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to our healthy beautiful daughter,” he writes in the post, which includes photos of what appears to be their new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧’s feet along with their dog Decoy. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.”
The next slide is a close-up photo of the parents’ hands holding their new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧’s feet.
The post goes on to include appreciation shout-outs to the Dodgers organization, Ohtani’s teammates, and fans for their support. He also expresses gratitude to the medical professionals, which is always so important. The parents have not yet revealed their new daughter’s name.
According to the Associated Press, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts received the news during their April 19 game agains the Texas Rangers, proclaiming, “Congratulations Sho!” during an in-game interview.
The 30-year-old Ohtani first announced he and Tanaka, 28, who’s a former professional basketball player, were expecting a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 via a December 2024 Instagram post. That one also featured Decoy lying with a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 onesie, 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 shoes, and a sonogram.
“Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” the caption reads.
