18-year-old black girl wins $1million in scholarships to 8 universities, set to become a business analyst

18-year-old Gabby Goodwin, has earned over one million dollars in scholarships and admission offers from several prestigious universities across the United States.

Gabby, a young inventor who created the GaBBY Bows—the world’s first and only anti-slip double-face double-snap barrette began her journey into entrepreneurship at the age of seven alongside her mother, Rozalynn.

Today, she holds three U.S. patents for her invention, which not only revolutionized hair accessories but also paved the way for her success in business and academics.

A patent is a legal document that grants an inventor the exclusive right to make, use, sell, and import an invention for a set period

Gabby took to Instagram to share the news of her college acceptances and scholarship wins. She described the admissions process as challenging, but ultimately fulfilling.

She expressed deep gratitude for the doors that have opened, and said she feels proud to step into her next academic chapter with clarity and purpose. Gabby was accepted into several top universities, each offering generous merit-based scholarships, including four full rides.

Out of all her acceptances, she chose Vanderbilt University, where she will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Business Analytics.

Alongside her academic achievement, Gabby recently secured a book deal with HarperCollins. Her debut 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s book, Naturally Me at the Confidence Salon, is set to be released soon.

The book, inspired by her real-life Confidence Salon, encourages young readers to embrace their natural beauty, believe in themselves, and follow their dreams. “Confidence has always been important to me,” Gabby said.

“I wouldn’t have been able to start my business at age seven or publish a book at seventeen without it. I want girls like me to be able to see themselves in my book and find the confidence to follow their dreams just like I did,” she added.
