Aquaman star Jason Momoa trades in his trident as he becomes the iconic DC Comics character Lobo in new stunning fan art for James Gunn’s DC Universe.
New DC Universe fan art imagines Jason Momoa as Lobo, as he has been teasing a mystery DC Studios project after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The DCEU is coming to an end this year as James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing the new DC Universe. Currently, Superman: Legacy is the film that they are working on, but several projects are also in various development stages. 2023 will end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which has been going through dramatic changes behind-the-scenes with only a few months left to go before its theatrical release.
Despite the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom problems, fans are already trying to imagine Momoa in Gunn’s DC Universe. Designed by Reel Anarchy, new fan art pitches Momoa as DC Comics’ Lobo, the infamous alien bounty-hunter.

The first design comes with the pitch of Lobo being “the or a villain” for Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, which will star David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel. Given some of Lobo and Superman’s comic history, this wouldn’t be the craziest idea for DC Studios to tackle.

Reel Anarchy also revealed an AI video of Momoa being transformed into Lobo for the DC Universe. Momoa has made it clear on several occasions that Lobo is one of his all-time favorite characters, which has fueled speculation that the secret DC Studios project he is attached to is meant to be as the DC bounty-hunter.
What DCEU Actors Are Confirmed To Return For James Gunn’s DC Universe?
While it’ll be quite some time, a number of DCEU actors are already confirmed to come back for Gunn’s DC Universe. On the television side of things, John Cena will continue playing the titular character in Peacemaker season 2, while Viola Davis reprises the role of Amanda Waller in the Waller series. Peacemaker stars are confirmed to appear in Waller with Steve Agee’s John Economos already lined up to show up, while the door is open for Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt, Danielle Brooks’ Leota Adebayo, and Freddie Storma’s Vigilante. Agee will also voice John in Creature Commandos, featuring the return of Sean Gunn as both Weasel and also the new character, G.I. Robot.
One of the bigger DCEU returns is Nathan Fillion, who played T.D.K. in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad back in 2021. However, this will be significantly different compared to his fellow DCEU stars as Fillion got cast as Green Lantern in Superman: Legacy, specifically as Guy Gardner, one of the famous Emerald Knights. Whether or not Gunn has lined up additional DCEU actors to come in as new characters remains to be seen. Given Fillion being attached as a huge DC hero this time around, it wouldn’t be shocking if Gunn has already tapped at least a few more familiar DCEU actors in new roles.
If Momoa’s mysterious project with DC Studios end up being something related to Lobo, it already seems to be an idea that fans are getting behind, as the Aquaman star would be a great fit as the popular bounty hunter. While behind the scenes reveals suggest that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may potentially continue the DCEU’s recent movie issues, this shouldn’t prevent Momoa from playing a completely different character in the DCU, and indeed could encourage a recasting for the actor that allows him to continue in the franchise regardless. Hopefully, Momoa’s actual place in the DC Universe will become clearer soon, whatever it may be.
