911 call of Bronny James describes harrowing minutes following cardiac arrest

The harrowing minutes after Bronny James’ heart collapse this week were made public by a 911 call.

James, the eldest son of Lakers star LeBron James and an incoming freshman on the USC basketball team, suffered a heart arrest on Monday during practice.

On Thursday, after the 18-year-old had been discharged from the hospital, an audio clip of the 911 emergency call, reported by TMZ, revealed the terrifying exchange in the seconds after the incident happened at the practice.

“We need an ambulance — immediately,” a caller said to the 911 dispatcher after the cardiac arrest. “Listen, listen, listen, get an ambulance here now.”

When the dispatcher asked if there was a doctor or nurse at the premises, the caller said, “No, there’s no doctor.”

“Help is already on the way, OK, get next to him with the phone,” replied the dispatcher. “We’re already on the way. … Fire department, paramedics are already on the way.”

The 6-foot-3 combo guard recruit was reportedly unconscious during the workout at USC’s Galen Center before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance, though it’s unclear what led to the cardiac incident.

He was briefly in an intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical, and by Tuesday, he was in stable condition.

On Thursday, James was discharged from the hospital after the terrifying ordeal and had made good progress, according to Cedars-Sinai.

“Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest,” Cedars-Sinai Medical Group cardiologist Dr. Merije Chukumerije said in a statement issued by the hospital Thursday.

“He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting.

“Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.”

Earlier Thursday, LeBron James tweeted his gratitude to those who supported the family in the trying time.
