He scored a great goal from the edge of the area in the 23rd minute.
Nashville’s Fabrice-Jean ‘Fafa’ Picault tied the game in the seventh minute with a close-range strike.
After extra time, the game went to a thrilling penalty shootout, which Miami won 10-9.
Messi scored his team’s first penalty kick, and they went on to win their first trophy since their formation in 2020.
And, before the team’s trophy lift, Messi rounded off his game-changing effort with a nice gesture.
The new Inter Miami captain placed his armband on Deandre Yedlin’s arm and insisted on raising the League Cup with the American.
The celebrations truly began after the trophy was presented.
The club’s social media streams provided supporters with an inside look at the after-party, including a video of their victorious players entering the dressing room and pouring champagne.
Following that, a group of players interrupted manager Gerardo Martino’s post-match press conference, dousing him in bubbly.
Back in the locker room, the gang danced some more while spraying more fizz around.
Surprisingly, some of the attendees wore ski masks to the festivities.
Despite the frenetic dancing around him, owner Beckham bravely made his way into the tumultuous scenes, getting a photo of the trophy.
After witnessing Messi’s accomplishment, co-owner and co-founder Beckham voiced his delight.
When the 36-year-old joined in July, Inter was at the bottom of the MLS, but they have already won seven straight games.
Beckham said: “A lot can happen in five weeks! A lot has changed for us, we will enjoy tonight and then we have to look to the future and continue to build.
“We have some of the best players, if not the best player, in the world out there for us wearing pink. We have a bunch of academy players out there too and that is incredibly important.
“It’s an emotional night for all of us. It has been a long journey for me. It has been a long journey, I always knew there would be bumps in the road along the way and there was too many, to be honest. Tonight is a night we are going to enjoy.”
