Despite having one leg amputated due to cancer, a 21-year-old dancer displayed incredible energy.

On November 18, in an interview with People, Kara Skrubis – a female dancer and dance student at the University of Buffalo (USA) told the story of her own life to inspire young people who don’t want to. give up in the face of life’s difficulties.

Kara says her life becomes more meaningful after overcoming her battle with bone cancer. The 21-year-old female student and dancer was found ill in 2019 after several knee pain. At that time, Kara Skrubis was only 18 years old, a freshman, majoring in dance at the University of Buffalo.

 

X-ray results showed that she had a large tumor, which doctors diagnosed as a bone sarcoma (malignant bone tumor). “This came so suddenly and I had to fight with all my strength to fight it,” she recalls.

After chemotherapy, Kara Skrubis had a leg amputated to remove the tumor. The surgery took place in April 2020. The dancer also completed a 17-month treatment with 9 months of chemotherapy and 8 months of immunotherapy. By September 2021, she was fitted with a prosthetic leg.

The female dancer said that in life, she always sets different goals for each moment, but since she was diagnosed with the disease, she has only one goal, which is to conquer the disease.

When Kara Skrubis was 13 years old, she experienced the loss of her father. He died suddenly and it was that suddenness that made the dancer believe that there are always surprises in life. Instead of giving up, Kara advises everyone to face it and find a way to overcome it.

 

Recalling the painful journey of treatment, Kara said: “Chemotherapy took a huge toll on my body and of course, amputation would completely change my life, but I wanted the tumor to go away. I didn’t want to. more treatment. I know that there are many 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren out there who have undergone the same surgery. So I try to face it calmly.”

Kara Skrubis confided, she has been passionate about ballet since the age of 3, having participated in cross-country competitions. Although her body is no longer the same as before, she has never given up on the idea of ​​practicing on the catwalk or performing on stages. She wants to spread motivation to people who are unfortunate enough to have difficulties like her.

The 21-year-old beauty said: “I never gave up on the belief that I would be able to dance again. Before, I was very tall and was teased by my friends at school. So ballet was a way for me to regain my energy. positive energy and a sport that makes my body better, no matter what anyone says.”

 

Kara Skrubis said she is satisfied with her current life. Every day, she practices ballet with a prosthetic leg. “I hope my story can help other 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren and young people see that their dreams don’t end because of bone cancer,” said the energetic dancer.

The 21-year-old female dancer added: “After having one of my legs amputated, I don’t look like a 21-year-old girl, but I still make myself beautiful. I can do everything that girls do. Girls my age can do it. Ballet is a way for me to embrace my flaws and show people that I’m not afraid to go after what I want.”
