Manchester United Transfer News RECAP Sofyan Amrabat Fitness Latest Plus Scott McTominay Interest

Manchester United fell to their third defeat in their last four Premier League outings yesterday, losing 3-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

Goals either side of half-time from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro fired the Seagulls into a 3-0 lead before Hannibal Mejbri pulled a goal back for the Reds. The Tunisian, fresh from stepping off the bench, fired in a speculative 25-yard effort with just over 15 minutes left.

Defeat has left United 13th in the Premier League at the end of the week, meaning they will be under immense pressure to get back on track against Burnley next weekend. But before they can switch their attentions to the trip to Turf Moor, United must focus on Wednesday night’s trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Reds are back at Europe’s top table after playing in the Europa League last season and will be determined to make their mark. They will, however, arrive in Munich in midweek as the outsiders. Erik ten Hag suggested one player could return to the squad in time and will hope it is Sofyan Amrabat.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho’s future remains a dominant topic after his recent rift with Erik ten Hag. Reports from overseas have claimed that Barcelona are ‘monitoring’ his situation ahead of a potential loan bid in January.

Why Tuchel won’t be in the dugout vs United

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel will serve a one-game touchline ban when his side welcome United to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

The German side will fancy themselves to go the distance in Europe, not least due to the fact that they have Tuchel in charge. The German has been involved in two finals as a manager and beat Manchester City 1-0 in 2021 to claim the iconic trophy while at Chelsea.

But he will not be on hand to bark out orders from the touchline on Wednesday due to a touchline ban. He was sent off during Bayern’s final Champions League match of last season, a 1-1 draw against City in April, after laying into the referee following a coming together by Kingsley Coman and Aymeric Laporte.
