Matt Damon Spoke Less Words in Bourne Than Keanu Reeves Did in John Wick 4- But Which Assasin Earned More Money For Every Word on Screen?

TrustedFollowShare

Both heartthrobs Matt Damon and Keanu Reeves have portrayed no-nonsense assassins like Jason Bourne and John Wick respectively in their careers gracefully and with conviction. The movies, in turn, ended up being billion-dollar franchises. But surprisingly, although the movies they starred in were packed with mesmerizing action sequences, had relatively fewer dialogues.

Despite the limited words spoken on screen, these multi-talented actors managed to captivate audiences and secure rather substantial earnings that would shock the world. Interestingly, Damon reportedly spoke even fewer words in the 2016 film Jason Bourne than Reeves did in John Wick 4. But the question remains, which actor earned more money per word?

How Much Did Matt Damon Earn From Jason Bourne?

With time, the Bourne film series seems to have followed its own trend and saw a gradual decrease in the number of dialogues with the release of every new installment, with the 2016 movie, the fourth in the series, marking the pinnacle of this ‘minimalist’ approach. Surprisingly, Matt Damon, the lead actor, had a mere 45 lines in the entire movie, totaling a precise 288 words to be exact. When the curious The Insider (via 9 News) asked about it, Damon stated,

“It never occurred to me that I didn’t have a lot of lines,–Starting with the second one in the series, once Franka Potente’s character dies, I don’t have anyone to talk to. Tony Gilroy, who wrote that movie, said to me, ‘You are clear what this means if she dies on page 20? You know that you’re not gonna speak much for the rest of the movie?’… That’s really interesting. And each movie, I think I’ve spoken progressively less, and this one, the least.–For any young actor out there, they should know that it’s not the number of lines you have, ever,”

Astonishingly, this meant that Matt Damon earned an astounding $86,805.55 for each of those words, which is insane to even think about! Given that he received a substantial $25 million payment for the film, which, in total, raked in an impressive $415.5 million globally. But how much did Keanu Reeves earn per word for John Wick 4?

Keanu Reeves, in contrast, had a higher number of words to deliver in his movie, reportedly totaling 380. Interestingly, Reeves isn’t typically known for delivering lengthy dialogues in his roles, making the John Wick franchise the ideal match for his style. Despite the minimal dialogues, the film’s engaging storyline, intense action sequences, and the sheer presence of the lead actor himself were more than sufficient to captivate audiences throughout its 169-minute runtime.

But the question remains, how much money did the actor bag per word? Considering the actor reportedly received a $15 million paycheck for the movie, which amassed a staggering $428.4 million globally, he pocketed an estimated $39,473 for every single word he uttered in the movie.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Despite the aforementioned number being a huge figure in itself, this amount still places Matt Damon significantly ahead of Reeves in this particular race of the numbers. Thus it can be stated that despite speaking significantly fewer words than Reeves, Damon took home a higher paycheck, but that does not make the impact these two characters have had on the pop culture media any less.
