Taylor Swift wasn’t the only big name making an appearance on Sunday night. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers — and noted “Swiftie” — returned to MetLife Stadium less than three weeks after sustaining an Achilles’ tear only four plays into the team’s season as the team took on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Following his injury against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, Rodgers underwent surgery by Dr. Neal ElAttrache to repair his Achilles’. In the pregame warmups, the Jets QB made his way onto the field with the assistance of crutches and an air cast as he was spotted chatting with team owner Woody Johnson.
Rodgers told NBC that he wants to play against this season and is getting his stitches removed this week. He is rehabbing five hours a day and will be back full-time with the team after the Week 7 bye.
A procedure similar to the one performed on Vikings running back Cam Akers by Dr. ElAttrache enabled his return to the field in just six months. The encouraging recovery, combined with Rodgers’ determination, raises the possibility of a return this season, although it is doubtful given the injury’s history.

During warmups, Rodgers was on the field and was approached by several Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce before the “Sunday Night Football” matchup. What the NFL All-Pros were talking about is unknown — but it wouldn’t be shocking if the conversation involved pop icon and singer/songwriter Taylor Swift.
Swift, who is allegedly dating Kelce, is attending her second straight Chiefs game. Last week, the singer made waves when she appeared in the Kelce family suite at Arrowhead Stadium, sitting next to the tight end’s mother as the Chiefs beat the Chicago Bears 41-10.
Rodgers has openly admitted to being a mega fan of Swift, with her fanbase acknowledging him as a “Swiftie.” The Jets QB and actor Miles Teller attended her concert at MetLife Stadium in May. “Oh, for sure, of course,” Rodgers replied when asked if he would catch the pop superstar in action when she kicked off her Eras Tour in New Jersey.

On Saturday, it was reported that the Jets’ $150 million quarterback was inside the Jets’ facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. Rodgers attended the team meeting and addressed his teammates after receiving medical clearance to travel back to the Tri-State area. Days prior, on the “Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers displayed his leadership by attempting to rally the team together.
In the absence of Rodgers, QB Zach Wilson has struggled after he was expected to be the understudy all season long. In a losing effort against the New England Patriots last week, Wilson was met with boos from the crowd due to his poor decision-making.
The Jets QB completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards, with no touchdowns. Wilson also took three sacks, losing 24 yards. Head coach Robert Saleh stated his belief in Wilson regardless of the 15-10 loss, sharing that Wilson gives the team the best chance to win.
