Despite Mike Trout’s Endorsement, LA Angels Skipper Fears The Same Fate As Red Sox, Mets, And Giants’ Top Brass

For teams not playing in October, the offseason has already begun. It’s time for some major changes, as MLB franchises reflect on their 2023 errors. Changes in management have already happened with the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, and Boston Red Sox. The Los Angeles Angels may be next, despite the stamp of approval from star player Mike Trout.

When the BoSox fired Chaim Bloom, it was not well received. The Giants’ dismissal of Gabe Kapler came as a shock to many, as did Buck Showalter’s from the Mets. Both had been recipients of the league’s managerial awards in the last two years. Does this also spell trouble for the Halos’ manager?

Phil Nevin Unsure of his Future in Los Angeles Even With Mike Trout’s Approval

MLB insider Rhett Bollinger recently asked the Angels how they felt about Phil Nevin as manager. Mike Trout, whose future in Anaheim is still uncertain to many, was at the top of the list. “I love Phil, I love playing for Phil,” the 11x All-Star said. He takes care of his guys. You know he wants the best for the team.”

Most of the other Angels had similar responses for Nevin, who started out as interim manager after the team let go Joe Maddon on June 7, 2022. An improved performance prompted the Halos to sign on the manager for another year, but now the time is up.

The Athletic’s Sam Blum reported, “Phil Nevin said at his media availability that he doesn’t know yet about his status beyond this season.” The Angels, on the other hand, did not hold a session with the media, as is the case every year. An update on Nevin, as well as GM Perry Minasian’s 2023 contract expiry, will probably come in the next few days.

Just as Nevin, widely known as a player’s coach, is desired to return by the Halos next year, the manager also wishes to remain in Anaheim.

California Native Nevin is Particularly Attached to the Los Angeles Angels

Although he has only managed the team for a year and a half, Phil Nevin loves the Angels. The 52-year-old is a native of Placentia, California and describes working with the Angels as a ‘dream job’. Although he may not have had success in his playing days, Nevin has won over the team off the field.
