Aaron Rodgers will attend Jets-Giants game after ‘tough’ rehab week

Aaron Rodgers revealed on his weekly paid Tuesday appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” that he plans to rejoin his Jets teammates Sunday for their game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium.

“I’m excited,’’ he said. “I miss the guys.’’

Rodgers, making an appearance on the “ManningCast” during “Monday Night Football,” invited former Giants quarterback Eli Manning to join him on the field before the Giants game for a catch.

Rodgers, of course, nearly blew up the internet two weeks ago when he tossed a football on the field before the Jets win over the Eagles.

Rodgers also described the last week of rehabilitation on his ruptured Achilles tendon as “tough” after previously having larger periods of progress.

“It’s been a tough week of rehab; it’s been kind of smaller gains,” he said. “I think when you get to a certain point, you’re not maybe having the jumps you have early on when you’re out of a cast and out a boot and in a shoe.”

Rodgers did say he’s shed the crutches and is walking without aid.

“It’s been more of a grind the last week or so, but a lot of good things we’re trending towards,” he said. “It’s a matter of trying to get down to 100 percent walking normal. I’m not walking without a limp yet. I don’t quite have the strength in my calf to be able to walk without a limp yet. Based on normal timetables, I have to have some perspective here because I’m not on normal protocol.

“However, I’m competitive and I want to be walking without a limp, so there is some frustration when you’re not quite all the way there yet. We’re getting close. The muscles around the Achilles are straining to balance for the Achilles, which isn’t 100 percent yet, so there’s some strain on them.

“The surgery that I got I feel great about and the protection that my Achilles has and the ability to push the rehab. The goal is not to stretch the Achilles, the goal is to stress the Achilles. And the more you can stress the Achilles you’re going to allow that thing to heal up the proper way, to turn all the muscles around the Achilles and calf and being able to get back to doing some more normal things.”
