The search for Luis Díaz’s father continues after he was kidnapped in Colombia. There is potentially some good news emerging for the Liverpool star as Jürgen Klopp has had his say on a potential return against Luton this weekend.
Luis Díaz’s father kidnapping latest
Reports in Colombia have suggested the father of Liverpool’s Luis Díaz could be returned to his family soon. Luis Manuel Díaz has been missing for almost a week after being kidnapped along with his wife last Saturday.
Clienis Marulanda was found safely shortly after, but Díaz’s father has remained a hostage ever since. A huge military operation has been undertaken to try and find him, with overnight reports suggesting a breakthrough may have been made.
According to Reuters in Bogota, a representative for ELN — the group believed to be holding Díaz’s father captive — has told the government he will be released “as soon as possible”. Juan Carlos Cuellar has reportedly told authorities of Díaz Snr’s imminent release, although there is some skepticism surrounding the claim.
The ECHO reports that the police chief overseeing the mission has yet to make a public update on the latest development. Díaz has missed Liverpool’s last two games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, although Jürgen Klopp suggested there is a chance he could return against Luton on Sunday.

“If he feels right, he will be with us,” Klopp said during his pre-match press conference. “You can see he didn’t sleep a lot. The news from Colombia gives us a little bit of hope. I cannot say what we will do. It’s up to him if he makes himself available or not.”
Liverpool ‘in contact’ with Kylian Mbappé
Liverpool remains in contact with Kylian Mbappé as speculation continues over his future, according to French reports. The 24-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2024, with Mbappé having refused to activate an option to extend it to 2025.
According to L’Equipe, the PSG star is evaluating all of his options ahead of making a ‘crucial decision’. Real Madrid is seen as the favorite to sign him, although the French publication has suggested Liverpool ‘don’t give up’.
The report claims the Reds have ‘never broken contact’ with Mbappé, having been linked with him for a number of years. Liverpool’s interest dates back to before the World Cup winner joined PSG from Monaco in 2017.
It is also suggested that PSG will avoid having to let Mbappé go for free, with an agreement having been reached back in August to ensure the Ligue 1 champion receives compensation. Any progress on Mbappé’s future is unlikely to be made until early 2024 though.
