Chelsea fans will have to wait a bit longer before they see Romeo Lavia make his debut for the club.
Chelsea signed Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer, but the midfielder is yet to play a game for the Blues.
He is currently out with an ankle injury, but a report from 90min claims that Chelsea are hopeful of him picking up some minutes in December.
It is a month where Mauricio Pochettino‘s side have to take on Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United and Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, so it would be good if they had Lavia back for those games. The clash against the Seagulls, though, may come too soon.
Chelsea’s midfield coping without Romeo Lavia
There probably is no reason for Chelsea to rush Lavia back. Are the Blues doing great in the Premier League right now? No.
Despite their 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, it has been a pretty poor season so far by their standards.
The Blues’ midfield has been far from terrible, though, and the same can be said about the defence. Rather, it is the lack of goals from the team’s attackers costing the club.
But concentrating on Chelsea’s midfield, they obviously have Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, while Conor Gallagher has not been bad this season either.
The England international is currently outperforming every player across Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to possession won in the attacking third.
Chelsea’s situation in midfield could be much worse and may have been if they were playing in Europe. But they are not and are only having to change their team for Carabao Cup games.
And maybe the Carabao Cup could be the tournament where Lavia makes his return, with Chelsea taking on Newcastle on 19th December for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
