‘Worried’… 23-year-old Chelsea player admits he’s concerned the club could now sell him

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has now admitted he is worried about his future at Stamford Bridge.

He told The Guardian that seeing top players signed in his position it left him thinking there may have been less chance of him playing this signing.

Fortunately, Gallagher has taken this season to prove any misconceptions and doubts about his game completely wrong.

This campaign he has been on par with both Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who were brought into the club for consecutive club-record transfer fees.

The 23-year-old has even taken the captain’s armband on a number of occasions this season, off the back of injury problems to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Gallagher worried about future

Despite being an ever-present starter in the Premier League this season, Gallagher was honest when he said he was certainly worried about what the future holds for him at his boyhood club.

He said: “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t [worried about my future]. When top players come in your position, you think you have less of a chance of playing. It makes you even more determined to prove you’re good enough. I think I’ve done that”

Mauricio Pochettino and his staff were reportedly massive fans of the England international before they even joined the club, and this has not changed now the season is more than a quarter old.

Even with additions such as Cole Palmer that could have seen his time in the side limited, he has remained a key player for the Argentine.

Perhaps the upcoming return to fitness for Romeo Lavia, who the club spent big money on over the summer, could be the next hurdle for Gallagher to cross in terms of maintaining his place in the side.
