Fabrizio Romano shares Chelsea’s January transfer plans after reports of potential points deduction

Fabrizio Romano has now shared what Chelsea are currently planning to do in the January transfer window.

He told CaughtOffside that the Blues are still prioritising bringing in a striker, despite the looming threat of a points deduction that has been reported recently.

It has not been made a secret that Chelsea are targeting a striker in an upcoming transfer window following more frustrations in front of goal this season.

Nicolas Jackson has faced a lot of the criticism this season, however it would be unfair to say he has not contributed this season.

Romano has claimed that the striker chase is still the priority, however that is only while there is no news on any sanctions.

He said: “I expect Chelsea to be smart – at the moment there is no news, after years of many stories about owners, directors, managers, players. This is the best way.

Chelsea still chasing a striker

“A striker remains a priority, we’ve mentioned Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney. Nothing has changed for Osimhen and I don’t see him moving in January … in the summer it could be different.

“With Toney the situation could be different – he wants to play for a top, top club and Chelsea are still interested. Let’s see if they will attack the situation but they haven’t opened negotiations yet.

“I expect Trevoh Chalobah to leave Chelsea in January and for them to explore options for a new centre-back – that’s one of the players they want to prioritise in 2024.”

Everton’s recent points deduction has led to many reports that Chelsea could be about to hit hard when investigations into their spending come to a head.

For now at least though, it looks as if it is going to be business as usual as far as spending money goes when the transfer window opens again.
