The city of Gelsenkirchen has changed its name to Taylor Swift’s to welcome the singer and her Eras Tour to the city.
Officials in the German city of Gelsenkirchen have temporarily renamed the city Swiftkirchen to celebrate Taylor Swift ‘s arrival there. The singer will perform three spectacular shows as part of her Eras Tour there.
The renaming was originally proposed by a fan, who petitioned and wrote directly to Mayor Karin Welge. Not only did the city change its name after the singer, it also introduced “Taylor Swift Streetcars” to drive around the city.
Not stopping there, the city also held a festival called “Taylor Town” on the days of the pop star’s concert. The festival included many interesting activities such as karaoke, DJs, tattoo booths, a fairground and many food and drink stalls. The mayor also expressed his great delight and excitement that the city of Gelsenkirchen was the destination for Taylor’s historic Eras Tour.
This isn’t the only place that has decided to temporarily rename its city to honor the Grammy-winning star. Previously, in 2023, Glendale in Arizona (USA) also changed its name to Swift City, while Minneapolis changed its name to Swiftie-apolis, Santa Clara also caught the trend and changed its name to Swifte Clara.
