I lost $1,000 through a ‘first world’ Walmart problem when I was targeted in store – they wouldn’t answer my complaint

A WALMART customer has recalled the moment her purse was snatched from her cart while she was shopping at the retailer.

The horrified shopper called the incident a “first world problem” and has taken total fault for her mistake.

Leslie Roman-Williams was recently the victim of a robbery while shopping at a Walmart in Midlothian, Virginia — about 14 miles west of Richmond.

She recalled the moment her purse was stolen from her shopping cart while searching for spaghetti at the retailer, which was undergoing renovation, on April 7.

“I realized when I looked back down, that my purse was no longer there. Of course, I screamed, ‘Oh my God,'” Roman-Williams told CBS affiliate WTVR.

“I would say [I lost] in the vicinity of least $500 to $1,000.”

The surprised shopper said she called Chesterfield Police and they recorded a larceny report.

In the report, the cop believed Roman-Williams’ purse had been taken by a group of kids, ages 10 to 13 years old.

Along with her purse, they stole about $800 worth of contents including her phone, keys, credit cards, and cash.

“I had a lucky $100 bill, which I was distressed, because when I worked for another company, I got employee of the year so that was one of my lucky prizes that I got,” Roman-Williams said, according to WTVR.

“So I hope they had fun with that $100 bill cash. Wasn’t so lucky, was it?”

MAIN CONCERN

Roman-Williams has come to terms with the crime and takes full responsibility for not keeping an eye on her purse.

However, the shopper expressed that her main concern was the lack of security at the store.

The report said a Walmart loss prevention worker wasn’t on site to help or give the cop footage of the incident.

When someone did arrive, he was unable to find any surveillance video of the theft, per the outlet.

Roman-Williams later learned no video existed of the crime.

“That’s the only thing I’m really concerned about, the lack of security maintenance and security cameras,” she said.

“I feel that Walmart should have had security cameras and we could have had something determined right away, whoever did it, we would have been able to focus on and maybe get my purse and all the contents back.”

The shopper attempted to contact Walmart for three months, but no one would return her calls.

She then contacted the outlet to help her get an answer.

A day after WTVR called Walmart, someone from the company’s cooperate office called Roman-Williams, per the outlet.

She said the person admitted the security equipment was out of date at the time of the store renovation.

They added that the system had since been upgraded.

Roman-Williams also said Walmart apologized for their slow response to her concerns and that her complaint “fell through the cracks”.

Walmart offered Roman-Williams a $200 gift card after the incident.
