The Chicago Bears rookie didn’t name the Kansas City Chiefs’ star as his top two NFL quarterbacks
The Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes might have found himself a new rival after being snubbed from a list of top two quarterbacks from one of the 2024 NFL Draft‘s top prospects one month before the season starts.
Caleb Williams, selected as the overall first pick by the Chicago Bears to replace Justin Fields, won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and has been tipped to become one of the dominant QBs of the future.
But it seems as though he doesn’t rate the 28-year-old Mahomes as highly as some others as he picked both the New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers and Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford as the NFL’s top two quarterbacks.
“I mean, he’s unbelievable,” Williams recently said on Up & Adams. “Like, there’s a couple plays where he’ll go play action.
“He has the (linebacker) on a string, like he wants the backer to go here, and he’ll throw it right behind his head (with) the perfect touch, perfect velocity.
“I was not happy [on Stafford’s NFL Top 100 ranking]. I don’t think I can name two quarterbacks, two, three quarterbacks that play the position better than Matthew Stafford.”
Why is Aaron Rodgers number one?
Rodgers, who won the Super Bowl in 2010 with the Green Bay Packers, spent all of 2023 on the sidelines after getting injured in the opening quarter of his Jets debut at the MetLife Stadium against the Buffalo Bills.
Yet with a year out, whilst Mahomes went on to win Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs, has done little to change Williams‘ impression of the 40-year-old as he named him the best NFL quarterback.
That’s ahead of Mahomes, the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson or the Bills’ Josh Allen so it’s high praise from the Bears‘ rookie.
“Matthew Stafford is Matthew Stafford,” Williams added. “Aaron Rodgers, right now in the game, is my number one QB. Matthew is top-two in the league. I give him his respect.”
