The former Eagles center has lost 35 pounds since hanging up his cleats.
n a stunning transformation, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has shed significant weight since retiring, making any hopes of a comeback unlikely. In a recent interview Kelce put the rumors about a possible unretirement to rest, citing his drastic weight loss as the main reason.
The future Hall of Famer, who was still playing at an elite level last year, announced his decision to retire after a stellar 13-season career, leaving many fans speculating about a potential return, especially if the Eagles make a Super Bowl run.
“They’re not going to call me to come back and play center at 260 pounds,” Kelce said the Associated Press, revealing that he has dropped a whopping 35 pounds from his playing weight of 295. “I’m moving on to the next thing, and I’m excited to watch Cam [Jurgens].”
Kelce expressed confidence in his successor, Cam Jurgens, who he believes will excel in the center position this season. “He’s going to really show people how great of a player he is,” Kelce added, praising Jurgens for his performance at right guard last year and predicting his success in the new role.
Kelce will be around for a while
The 36-year-old’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Eagles, where he earned six First-team All-Pro selections, eight Pro Bowl nods, and led the team to their first Super Bowl championship in 2017. Despite his departure from the field, Kelce assured fans that he won’t be disappearing from the football world altogether.
Kelce is set to continue co-hosting the popular “New Heights” podcast with his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. Additionally, he’s embarking on a new career as an NFL analyst for ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown,” with his first regular season game scheduled for September 9, when the San Francisco 49ers take on Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets.
While Kelce’s playing days are officially behind him, his impact on the game and his presence in the football community remain strong. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Kelce, just not in an Eagles uniform.
