Carl Jammes Martin battles Mexican brawler in overseas debut

Boxing rising star Carl Jammes Martin heads to Sinoloa for his first fight abroad

UNDEFEATED Filipino boxing prospect Carl Jammes Martin makes his overseas debut against battle-tested Mexican Anthony Jimenez Salas in a non-title super bantamweight bout at Culican, Sinoloa, Mexico this weekend.

The 25-year-old native of Lagawe, Ifugao will stake his perfect 23-0 record (18 KOs) in his first fight since moving to the US six months ago.

“I feel this is the right time to fight and prove myself abroad. This is the time to show that I am ready after being trained at the Knuckleheads Boxing Ranch training compound in Las Vegas, Nevada,” Martin said. “This is what I needed as I look forward to fighting for a world title in 2025.”

“I would like to thank Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Sean Gibbons, and then my team for all the help after I moved to Las Vegas.”

Since making Las Vegas his base, Martin has sparred with the likes of world class fighters Bruce ‘Shushu’ Carrington and Filipino-American prospect DJ Zamora.

“He has been sensational training and working with the best boxers coming at the Knuckleheads gym every day. They’re seeing his diet and training workouts. By coming to the US, he’s looking to improve on his craft and be a global boxing star, a world champion someday,” Sean Gibbons, president of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, said.

Gibbons said Martin is among the best prospects for a world title currently campaigning in the country, someone who the boxing match maker said deserves to be training in the US.

“Martin is a diamond in the rough who has a great potential to be a world champion. Just like the other Filipino boxers, he is a promising individual, has the talent, attitude, and the s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s to follow the footsteps of former world Filipino champions,” Gibbons added.

He is currently ranked No. 3 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 6 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Salas, 28, is a tough brawler from Mazatlan, Mexico, who sports an 18-9-1 win-loss-draw record with five knockouts.

“Carl Martin will be carrying the tradition of a great rivalry between Philippines versus Mexico. He looks forward to carrying on that tradition,” Gibbons said.
