Neymar has posted a farewell message to close friend Lionel Messi after the latter played his final game for Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi will leave PSG this summer after two years in the French capital and has an enormous offer on the table from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, but Barcelona remain determined to lodge an offer for the World Cup winner once their financial plan has been approved by La Liga.
Either way, it’s the second time close friends Messi and Neymar have parted ways, and the Brazil international had a message of love for Messi after PSG’s season came to a close.
“Brother…it didn’t turn out as we thought but we tried everything,” Neymar wrote on Instagram. “It was a pleasure to share two more years with you.
“Good luck in your new stage and be happy. I love you.”
Messi is keen to return to Barcelona this summer but the La Liga side are not yet in a position to make him a formal offer. They have exceeded their salary cap and must prove to league officials that they can get back under and abide by the rules before they will be permitted to sign new players.
Aiding Barcelona’s cause is the departures of both Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, while the likes of Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati are facing uncertain futures as Barcelona seek to raise the money needed for another significant spending spree.
As for PSG, the Ligue 1 champions must find a way to replace Messi and are known admirers of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, but Barcelona are also looking to lure the Portugal international to Camp Nou as well.
