The Minecraft movie is set to release on April 4, 2025. This will come almost two years after the production of the movie begins. Production was slated to begin on August 7, 2023, in New Zealand, but shifted to spring 2024. This delay was due to the SAG/AFTRA strike which saw a majority of Hollywood productions halted as actors fought for fair wages. According to a post by Jason Momoa in April 2024, the Minecraft movie wrapped filming.
Though the cast was largely shrouded in mystery for quite some time, details have finally been revealed about many of the characters. Leading the film is action star Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, and he’s joined by Sebastian Hansen’s Henry, Emma Myers’ Natalie, and Dawn (played by Danielle Brooks). That quartet will be playing four misfits who somehow find themselves in the world of Minecraft. Jack Black will appear as the franchise’s familiar protagonist, Steve, an expert at the game who will help them return to the real world.
