Golf analyst makes fun of Rory McIlroy’s ‘robot’ voice in promo video for big venture with Tiger Woods (Image via IMAGN)
The TGL, helmed by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, has not yet begun. It will launch in January after infrastructure issues caused a one-year delay. Just before the league is set to officially begin, fans can get excited by watching the five-part docuseries that goes inside the creation of the league.
If one golf journalist is to be believed, though, it won’t be a good documentary. Christopher Powers of Golf Digest didn’t think the trailer they released for the incoming show was all that exciting, partly blaming how McIlroy sounded in the ad.
According to Powers, he sounded robotic and the whole trailer did not seem to excite in the slightest. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Rory sounding like a literal robot this entire video should tell you exactly how this whole thing is going to go.”
The Irishman begins the trailer by saying that he loves golf and wants to make it more accessible and bring it into the future with the technology-based TGL. He then joked about some of the challenges he and Woods faced in forming this league, setting the stage for the documentary.
The docuseries will take fans through everything from the beginning, as in creating teams and a league for golf “from scratch”. McIlroy is part of the Boston-based group that also includes Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama, and Keegan Bradley.

The docuseries will do a good job of taking fans through everything, but the formation of TGL required a lot of work. They had to get golfers involved, sponsors, owners for teams, the venue, the technology, and so much more. Even with a delay thanks to the venue’s infrastructure, they’re finally on track.
Each team has four golfers, and there are 24 in total. For a while, it was unknown who would be on what team as they tried to land more players for the venture, but everything is seemingly set in stone now.
As mentioned, Boston Common Golf Club is made up of Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama (who stepped in in place of LIV Golf star Tyrrell Hatton), and Keegan Bradley.

Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC team consists of Kevin Kisner, Tom Kim, and Max Homa. Atlanta Drive GC houses Lucas Glover, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Billy Horschel.
The first team that formed, the Los Angeles Golf Club, is made up of Sahith Theegala, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose. NYGC consists of Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young.
Finally, the Bay Golf Club, with which Steph Curry is involved, has Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Aberg, and Shane Lowry.
