Young Man Who Started His Food Business in School, Now Very Successful, Narrates His Journey

In the picturesque town of Agortime-Kpetoe in Ghana’s Volta Region, a young entrepreneur named Matti has defied age and adversities to carve an inspiring path in the business world. From his humble beginnings, Matti’s tenacity and passion for entrepreneurship have driven him to create waves of success.

Matti’s journey commenced with his grandmother and visually-impaired grandfather, who nurtured his dreams and instilled in him the belief that everything is achievable. He attended the EP Basic School, where his grandfather taught him how to write his name, leaving an indelible mark on his young mind.

Later, Matti moved to the bustling Greater Accra Region, where he joined IBM Primary School in Madina. However, a discouraging incident in class two forced him to leave, but he did not lose hope. Undeterred, he continued his studies at Baba Yara M/A 1 & 2 Junior High School, though irregular attendance led him to repeat class five. Despite this setback, Matti discovered his entrepreneurial spirit early on. Fueled by a desire to make money, he balanced his education with endeavors such as working on his father’s farm, cultivating crops, and tending to goats.

As he navigated his academic journey, Matti faced financial challenges when his father couldn’t afford to pay for his university studies. Nevertheless, his determination led him to find a way. Using savings from a laundry job and support from his siblings, he managed to pay his initial university fees. Eventually, his father stepped in to assist him in continuing his education.

Initially eyeing a military career, a chance encounter with a family friend altered Matti’s course, and he chose to pursue a degree in Development Studies at the University for Development Studies. During this time, he worked diligently, juggling studies and managing his family’s corn mill business, which flourished under his leadership.

The entrepreneurial bug had bitten Matti, and he soon ventured into various business ventures. He opened the Eleven15 Restaurant, which faced its share of challenges, leading to the closure of some branches. Despite these setbacks, Matti’s resolve remained steadfast.

Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Matti’s academic achievements are noteworthy. Currently a doctoral (PhD) candidate at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a master’s student pursuing an MBA in Impact, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, he is a testament to the power of education and continuous learning.

Matti’s dedication to entrepreneurship extends beyond his own ventures. As the regional director and head of the Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda operations for US-based NGO Easy Water for Everyone, he contributes to sustainable water solutions in various communities.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Matti’s spirit remains undaunted. He continues to inspire others with his passion for entrepreneurship, commitment to education, and unwavering determination. His story serves as a beacon of hope, proving that with resilience, ambition, and a strong sense of purpose, one can overcome any obstacle and make a significant impact on society. Matti’s journey is a testament to the potential that lies within every individual, regardless of age or background, to rise above adversities and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
