A mobile home in Palm Springs, California, that is now a delightful one-bedroom home, but is rumored to have been Desi Arnaz’s makeup trailer for “I Love Lucy,” sold in May for $145,000.

The petite closing price actually works out to quite a large price per square foot — especially considering it’s just the trailer its new owner purchased and not the land underneath it.

In Palm Springs — home of natural hot springs and celebrity getaways — the median listing home price per square foot is $501. That’s more than double the national average of $222, according to Realtor.com.

But in Horizon Mobile Village & RV Park at the bottom of the San Jacinto Mountains, the trailer now affectionately named Lucille sold for about $432 per square foot.

“In theory it sounds cheap,” listing agent Niko Esposito of Paul Kaplan Group Palm Springs told Insider. “In this park, for a one-bedroom the size of what this is, that was fairly expensive.”

“The outdoor space really allowed it to feel like it is outdoor-indoor living,” Esposito said. “It makes it incredibly functional.”

“He put everything he had into it as far as just love and time,” Esposito said.

“It would do amazing as an Airbnb, but they don’t allow it,” Esposito said. “The person that has purchased it said it’s going to be a part-time getaway.”

“I have one woman that still is upset she didn’t do it,” she said. “She just got to it too late.”

“In reality, it’s looked at as personal property because it really still is a trailer,” she said. “It has a hitch.”

“He curated everything special for that property, so to get that intact is kind of amazing,” Esposito said.

“Because of the vintage aspect and the design of it, it made people lose their minds,” Esposito said. “Even if they maybe weren’t going to necessarily buy it, it just is one of those things where it pulls their heartstrings.”
