“She really hated me… she wasn’t very nice”: Anne Hathaway’s Not So Great Moment Almost Got Interviewer Blacklisted but Hugh Jackman Was a Completely Different Story

Kjersti Flaa’s recount of Anne Hathaway’s interview is a reminder that not all bold ideas strike the right chord, but at least Hugh Jackman vibes along.

Celebrity interviews can either be a hit or a miss but one thing’s for sure – they will give us some unforgettable moments no matter how awkward. Something similar happened with Anne Hathaway and the cast of Les Misérables when they sat down with reporter Kjersti Flaa to talk about the 2012 musical. After deciding to take a unique approach to their discussions, the reporter came up with the idea to sing a question to the cast members and while the majority of them matched her energy, Anne Hathaway was simply not feeling it that day.

The Internet may have different opinions when it comes to talking about Anne Hathaway but her attitude during the interview with Kjersti Flaa did not sit right with most netizens. Recently, the reporter recalled what went down on set that day and how her reaction was the complete opposite of that of Hugh Jackman’s.

Around the time Blake Lively got herself caught in a mess during It Ends with Us’ promotions, Anne Hathaway’s old interview started resurfacing online. In the interview, she sat down with Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa to promote Les Misérables, and let’s just say that she looked absolutely miserable in the clip.

In the interview, Flaa asks her if she could sing a question to her and have her reciprocate the vibe. While Hathaway laughed, she simply went ahead and replied, “Well, I won’t be doing that but you’re more than welcome to sing.” From there it was just downhill and Hathaway seemed cold towards Flaa.

In October, Flaa posted a video on her YouTube channel talking about the very interview. She recalled thinking back then, “I was sitting there like, ‘Okay, this is not going the way I hoped for’ but then I thought, ‘Heck, I’m going to do it anyway.” Probably not the best idea.

Flaa then admitted to feeling dismissed by the actress in front of her. She added that the studio’s representative even asked her to take down the original video as it might get the reporter blacklisted.

She hated me. Let’s face it. She didn’t like that idea at all either that was pretty obvious. I did actually post that interview on my YouTube channel and someone, a representative from the studio told me to take it down. He was like, ‘If people are going to see that you might be blacklisted’ and I was like, ‘Okay,’ basically because she wasn’t very nice.

While Flaa realizes that it was perhaps “too much” to ask Hathaway to sing for the interview, she believes the actress could’ve been much nicer about the whole situation.

After the clip from the interview resurfaced, it caught Hathaway’s eye who immediately sent a lengthy email to Flaa apologizing for her past behavior. She even invited the reporter to interview her for her next film. Click here to see Flaa talking about the gesture.

Hugh Jackman Was a Completely Different Story

Hathaway was not the only Les Misérables cast member Flaa asked the question to in a sing-song voice. However, the rest of them reacted in a completely opposite way.

Hugh Jackman, for starters, was completely on board with the bit and even seemed excited to be trying something new. He perfectly matched Flaa’s energy and when she asked/sang “So, were there any awkward moments on set, because you had to sing and not talk,” he replied,

I love that you ask me a question and you stay all in one not like we’re in church. It’s very good…

He answered the question by singing, rhyming, and making jokes with Flaa. All in all, it was a complete success and the reporter couldn’t stop gushing on and on about how nice and professional Jackman always is.

Flaa did the same thing with Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried who also passed the vibe check. Luckily, the reporter’s little experiment worked three out of the four times and that should be a win in her books.

No matter what was going on in Hathaway’s mind at the time, we commend her for reaching out to Flaa and apologizing.
