Connacht’s Sean Jansen has received a three-match ban for his red card against the Bulls.
The number 8 was sent off in the 21st minute of their 28-14 URC loss last weekend.
Referee Mike Adamson sent the forward off “under Law 9.16 – A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player.”
Jansen accepted that the foul play warranted a red card and was given a six-week suspension.
“The Player received three weeks (50%) mitigation due to his good record and apology,” said the URC.
The 25-year-old New Zealand native will miss Connacht’s Challenge Cup games against Zebre and Perpignan, but will be available for the Christmas URC derby against Leinster on 21 December if he undertakes the coaching intervention programme.
Meanwhile, Bulls number 8 Mpilo Gumede (above, l), who was sent off in the same game, also received a three-match ban.
After an incident with David Hawkshaw, the officials sent off Gumede “under Law 9.12. A player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone…in this instance, reckless contact with the eyes”.
The forward is set to miss the Bulls’ upcoming matches against Saracens, Northampton and Hollywoodbets Sharks.
